Attend this FREE concert that’s coming up a week from Memorial Day, sponsored in part (for the second consecutive year) by Southern Exposure. This is the Savvy Chamber Showcase, held on Monday, June 5, at 7:30pm in the brand new auditorium at the Richland Library, 1431 Assembly Street, Columbia.

This showcase concert, which features four music ensembles that will be in Columbia vying for a $10,000 grand prize, is a part of David Cutler’s renowned arts entrepreneurship workshop, held each year at USC.  The Savvy Chamber Showcase is a part of the nation’s first chamber music competition to evaluate both artistic excellence and innovative event design.  This year’s highly accomplished finalists, each of whom will play 20-minute sets, are:

Arcomusical (Dekalb, IL) — a world music sextet that reimagines the berimbau, an Afro-Brazilian single-string percussion instrument

BIK Ensemble (Montreal / Paris) — a violin / cello / percussion trio that uses drama and movement to highlight the expressiveness of contemporary music

The Living Earth Show (San Francisco, CA) — an electric guitar / percussion duo comprised of two of the world’s most progressive and experimentally ambitious artists

Real Vocal String Quartet (Berkeley, CA)— a unique quartet that combines string music, improvisation, composing, and singing

I hope you might join me at this show to hear and meet these truly inspiring people and ensembles!
