Dr. Nick Luby, In Concert Sunday, May 21st at 3pm.

Join us on Sunday, May 21st at 3pm for a special afternon featuring Dr. Nick Luby  from the School of Music at the University of South Carolina performing compositions and works by Chopin, Ravel, Brahms, Bach and More.

As a performer, Nick has won numerous competitions across the country. His playing garners praise for its expressivity, sensitivity, daring, and conviction from distinguished pianists and audience members alike. His rigorous formal classical training has afforded him a powerful technique and refined aesthetic, but he is still comfortable playing in any musical style. He has experience performing jazz, blues, rock and metal, and he has made numerous hip hop beats and dabbled with EDM.
At the age of 26, Nick has already accrued 15 years of teaching experience. His students have ranged in level from beginner to advanced, and he has taught ages 4-70. As a teacher, Nick’s goal is to create the best customized learning experience possible for each student through a combination of discipline, hard work, creativity, and fun. (Yes it is possible to have all four!) His breadth of knowledge of music and technique allows him to help his students reach any goal.
Nick currently studies piano with Marina Lomazov as a Graduate Assistant in the Performance Certificate program at the University of South Carolina. He holds an M.M. in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan as a student of Arthur Greene and a B.A. with honors in Music and a double major in Philosophy from Wesleyan University. In March, 2016 Nick won the 38th annual Dr. Sharyn Edwards Piano Competition. In December 2015 Nick won the Creativity in Music Award at the University of South Carolina for The Concert Truck, an upcoming performance project. While at Wesleyan Nick won the Elizabeth Verveer Tishler Piano Competition and the Concerto Competition in 2009. He has also been First Prize winner in the Loren Withers Piano Competition in Durham, NC, and the Old Dominion Classical Piano Competition in Norfolk, VA.
