Acclaimed as a pianist with “astounding musical authority”, Susan Zhang made her orchestral debut at the age of twelve with the Augusta Symphony after winning the 2001 Augusta Symphony Concerto Competition. Since then, she has also collaborated with the South Carolina Philharmonic and the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. Susan has been a prizewinner of many competitions, including the 2011 Bauru-Atlanta Competition, 2009 Burgos International Music Festival Competition, and 2005 Arthur Fraser International Concerto Competition of the Southeastern Piano Festival. This past summer, she concertized and gave master classes in China. Susan recently received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of South Carolina under the tutelage of Dr. Marina Lomazov. In the past, she has also had the pleasure of working with Joseph Rackers, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Boris Slutsky, Natalya Antonova, and Robert McDonald. Apart from the Southeastern Piano Festival, she has also been accepted into the Banff Center Piano Master Class and the Aspen Music Festival and School.
Susan is currently studying with Enrico Elisi at the Eastman School of Music and is pursuing her Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Literature. At Eastman, she serves as a teaching assistant for Class Piano. She will be concertizing in Venezuela in January.
