Piano Disc Player Systems:
PianoDisc is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of player piano systems, with a dealer network that literally spans the globe. The company was founded in 1988, and in very short order became one of the most successful, innovative and influential companies in the music products industry.
PianoDisc began in a modest-sized piano retail store in Sacramento, California, which was owned by brothers Gary & Kirk Burgett. In 1979, the two had decided to start a business together that would take advantage of each one’s talents and interests. Gary was a pianist and music teacher with a successful studio of his own, and Kirk was a skilled piano technician and rebuilder. The company they founded was called Burgett Pianos, and through a combination of hard work and marketing savvy they rapidly took annual sales from 50 pianos to over 400.
One important selling tool for the brothers was a product called Pianocorder, a cassette-driven player system that could be added to any piano. The Burgetts let Pianocorder demonstrate their pianos in malls, department stores, model homes and a host of other offsite locations, and it drew fascinated customers—people who didn’t play the piano and never would have thought of buying one—into their store.
Pianocorder sales eventually made up close to 40% of Burgett Pianos’ business, so the brothers were alarmed when, in 1988, Yamaha (the Japanese piano manufacturer), bought the rights to Pianocorder and promptly took it off the market. Yamaha planned to come out with its own player system and wanted to eliminate its competition beforehand.
Since the Burgetts were not Yamaha dealers, they suddenly had no player system to sell and stood to lose 40% of their sales. In the true entrepreneurial spirit, the Burgetts saw this not as a catastrophe but as an opportunity. They knew they were not alone—there were thousands of piano dealers with no product to sell—so they decided to meet the demand by making their own system, which they called PianoDisc. They produced their first system in March of 1989 and over the years many generations of PianoDisc player systems have been introduced, each one expanding the capabilities and features of the last.
To support a product as sophisticated as PianoDisc, a music library was needed that was just as sophisticated, so the company began recording some of the world’s finest pianists. Over the years, more than 4000 songs in every category of music have been recorded for PianoDisc and its library is still growing.
Today, PianoDisc systems are in private homes, hotels, restaurants, music schools, recording studios and a host of other places, bringing the joy of live music to anyone who hears them. The company has over 600 dealers and distributors in 40 countries around the world. Wherever it’s shown everyone agrees: PianoDisc is one of the most exciting music products to come along in decades, and an important component in modern home entertainment.

With TFT Record you can archive piano performances, including your children’s first recitals. Pianists find it useful as an educational tool and you can use it to compose and record music directly on the piano, and, by using available software and your computer, even print sheet music for your composition.

CD Wireless lets you connect PianoDisc’s 228CFX or PianoCD systems to your own conventional CD changer with no need for external wiring.
MIDI Controller Retrofit system
This system gives your acoustic piano’s keyboard access to MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface), opening a world of advanced technology to your piano.
The MIDI Controller Retrofit System will turn virtually any acoustic piano into a MIDI Controller. With this system you can use your acoustic piano’s keyboard to record music to a computer, send keyboard and pedal data to a digital piano, external sound module, sequencer or other MIDI device. The MIDI Controller system supports soft pedal, sostenuto pedal and sustain pedal functions. The MIDI Controller Retrofit System includes a power supply, 10 ft. long 5 pin MIDI cable, MIDI strip, 3 pedal switches and a MIDI board with cover.
With the simple pull of a lever, this option effectively mutes a piano 100% so you can play anytime without disturbing others.
The PianoMute option allows you to play your piano without making a sound. By pulling a lever, a mute rail is activated which comes between the piano’s hammers and its strings. When used in conjunction with the QuietTime GT option (see under Products), you can then hear your piano playing digitally, through headphones, or aloud over stereo speakers.

Player Systems for the Mason & Hamlin Piano
PianoDisc manufactures retrofit systems that turn a Mason & Hamlin piano (or any other brand) into a 21st century player piano and the center of home entertainment.
Radio Frequency (RF) Extender
This device converts an infrared (IR) remote control into a radio-frequency (RF) remote control.
The RF Extender allows the user to control a *PianoDisc unit using radio frequency (sound) technology instead of infrared, or light. RF signals can travel unimpeded through hard surfaces, even walls. IR, on the other hand, requires an uninterrupted line-of-sight to operate, since light travels in a straight line.
With the addition of an RF Extender, PianoDisc’s remote control unit lets you operate the piano from anywhere in the house—from down the hall, several rooms away, around corners, etc., for greater convenience.
This important, built-in feature of all PianoDisc systems allows precise control of the piano’s keys and pedals for greater fidelity, expression and low-volume control.
SilentDrive ensures that all PianoDisc systems play with life-like expression, and sound remarkable even at whisper-soft volume levels.
SilentDrive is PianoDisc’s exclusive, patented technology. Its four boards consist of one CPU (central processing unit) and three custom ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) chip-driven boards. The boards communicate using a type of serial information link that runs faster than MIDI. This electronic link allows for the almost instantaneous changes to the solenoid’s speed when a new command is given.
With SilentDrive, PianoDisc systems play at much quieter levels, with whisper quiet movement of the solenoids and incredible dynamic expression.
